Mental health is an essential part of overall well-being, yet it's often stigmatized and overlooked. But what if there was a foundation that aimed to change that? Meet Unmasked Culture - a non-profit organization founded on the principle of promoting holistic mental health through vulnerability and authenticity.
Let me tell you about Unmasked Culture, my non-profit foundation that's near and dear to my heart. It was founded in Minneapolis, MN in 2019 and the mission is to promote holistic mental health through multimedia platforms and a community that values vulnerability and authenticity.
This mission is personal to me because I've experienced mental health issues myself, and I've seen firsthand the impact it can have on individuals and their loved ones. Mikel's personal experience with mental health, along with the tragic loss of his brother to suicide in 2020, inspired him to create Unmasked Culture.
The foundation began as a video where Mikel shared his struggles with mental health in a vulnerable and authentic way. This video led to a YouTube series called "Vulnerability," which has helped so many people feel less alone in their own struggles. Clearly there was a need to be met.
Unmasked Culture's approach to mental health, which is comprehensive and recognizes the interconnectedness of different aspects of our lives. By shedding light on daily struggles and fostering a community that values vulnerability, Unmasked Culture is breaking down stigmas and creating a safe space for people to share their experiences.
